OKX US combines a state-licensed operating entity with account-protection tools and access to platform-wide reserve disclosures. Those safeguards need to be evaluated alongside the US company’s explicit lack of private insurance for customer digital assets. They do not establish guaranteed safety or solvency.
Controls
The US passkey guide supports FIDO authentication using a device’s biometrics or PIN, or a USB security key. The withdrawal guide also describes address allowlisting and two-factor confirmation. A passkey reset triggers a 24-hour withdrawal restriction, so resetting access immediately before a transfer can create an additional wait (OKX US passkey guide, August 11, 2026, and withdrawal guide, September 14, 2026).
Custody And Insurance
Exchange-controlled keys are central to how custodial wallets work. OKX’s US terms describe fiat held in segregated omnibus custodial bank accounts in trust for users. The clause covers fiat balances, leaving the treatment of crypto separate (OKX US terms, September 16, 2026).
OKX INC. expressly states that it does not maintain private insurance for customer digital-asset holdings. For this US account, the company’s disclosures exclude FDIC, NCUA, and SIPC protection for digital assets. Its terms do not make an explicit fiat pass-through insurance promise (OKX INC. California disclosures, June 30, 2026, and US terms, September 16, 2026). A regulated transmission business is not itself an insured bank account.
Proof Of Reserves Or Audits
OKX’s reserve page describes monthly cryptographic verification and says its scope includes customer and corporate digital assets held globally by OKX entities. It provides public-wallet information and tools for checking inclusion in a snapshot. The public total is platform-wide, with no separate US-entity reserve balance in that presentation (OKX’s 46th Proof of Reserves, August 2026 report, checked September 16, 2026).
A snapshot can help verify the assets and balances it covers, but it is not a full financial audit of the US company. Kraken’s reserve transparency assessment offers a comparison with independently attested customer-inclusion reporting. Neither model guarantees that a future withdrawal will be honored.
The reserve-verification tools use a platform-wide snapshot. They are not a standalone financial audit of the US company. For money you expect to spend soon, the distinction between a trading balance and a withdrawable balance is more immediately important than the account’s advertised withdrawal ceiling.
Incidents And Remediation
The FDIC demanded corrections to the US company’s insurance representations in June 2023. In a statement to this publication, the company said it was assessing the statements and would address the regulator’s concerns. The demand concerned insurance representations and did not establish a customer-fund loss (FDIC advisory letter, June 15, 2023, and company statement in our June 2023 reporting).
Aux Cayes Fintech Co. Ltd., the international affiliate, entered the February 2025 guilty plea. DOJ attributed the charged conduct to that company and expressly distinguished it from the registered US affiliate, which did not enter that plea (DOJ release, February 24, 2025).
